The launch ceremony of 2023 Starbucks Global Service Month took place at Yuzui Wetland Park in Nanjing where volunteers engaged in various activities such as Yangtze River conservation themed painting to promote nature and spread awareness about ESG concepts.
Meanwhile, Starbucks’ choice of the finale in Nanjing epitomises the city’s forefront in ESG sustainable investment compared with provincial capitals across China.
With the national “double carbon” development in context, Nanjing is taking strides towards becoming a pioneering city for ESG investment by strategically laying out the ESG investment field in advance.
Nanjing has been making impressive progress in this regard. Last year, it established the Yangtze River Delta Carbon Neutral Industry Innovation Investment Alliance, which is the first dual-carbon industry venture capital organization in the region. Nanjing was also among the first cities to be selected as one of the “waste-free cities” during the 14th Five-Year Plan period. This recognition further highlights its commitment to exploring ESG concepts and attracting green industries.
Nanjing’s efforts have borne fruit – Ford’s engineering R&D center in Nanjing has been upgraded to a Ford product R&D center. Additionally, the LG new energy project in South Korea has led to the gradual establishment and production of a 100-billion-dollar emerging industry cluster.
