“Food is symbolic of love when words are inadequate,” said Dr. Alan Wolfelt. It’s a statement that can resonate with almost everyone who loves to cook or those who devote themselves to cooking. In a fairly unremarkable alley, a couple from two Mediterranean countries who run a restaurant in Nanjing spread love with their food, which becomes the perfect interpretation of this statement.

About ten years ago, Wessam Faleh and Domenika Sindik came to Nanjing as students from Tunisia and Montenegro respectively. They fell in love with each other and got married several years later.

Proudly calling #Nanjing their second home, the pair open a Mediterranean restaurant named FoodGasm in this city. These shops have been thriving for years. They have seen a booming economy and a more favorable business climate in Nanjing. With the help from the government and Chinese friends, these shops have survived the covid-19 pandemic and are ushering a more promising future. Although their business has ups and downs, it’s delightful that they have overcome obstacles. Thanks to the rebound of urban consumption, the pair are confident enough to believe that 2023 will be a good year for their business.
