The government just published China Urban Science and Technology Innovation Development Report 2020, Nanjing’s ranking was uplifted to No.4.
The report shows that the top 20 cities in China’s urban science and technology innovation development index in 2020 are Beijing, Shenzhen, Shanghai, Nanjing, Hangzhou, Guangzhou, Suzhou, Wuhan, Xi’an, Tianjin, Zhuhai, Wuxi, Hefei, Chengdu, Changsha, Xiamen, Ningbo, Qingdao, Jinan, Changzhou.
Nanjing’s advantages on scientific research
As an important science and education center city in China, Nanjing has 53 universities and a large number of high-level scientific research institutes. In addition, a group of top international scientific research institutions such as Cambridge University, Stanford University, and the Weizmann Institute in Israel have settled in Nanjing, forming a significant global influence and demonstration driving force.
Nanjing has more than 800,000 tertiary students, more than 80 academicians of the “two academies” and a huge army of scientific researchers. Turing Prize winner Yao Qizhi, national highest science and technology prize winner Wang Zeshan, and Nobel Prize winner Andre Heim all participated in the construction of new research institutions in Nanjing.
Innovative service
Nanjing is having plan to provide 5-10 million financial support to top talents (teams), among which, the comprehensive funding for the iconic global influence is up to 100 million yuan. Also Nanjing wishes to provide 500,000-3.5 million financial support for high-level innovative and entrepreneurial talents. The “Purple Mountain Talent Card” was launched to provide integrated and precise services such as innovation and entrepreneurship, children’s education, health care, and quality of life.
