Boasting a remarkable 53 colleges and universities, Nanjing ranks closely behind Beijing and Shanghai in terms of its comprehensive prowess in science and education.
The city is presently home to 9,068 high-tech enterprises and an additional 20,000 small and medium-sized enterprises grounded in science and technology.
During the initial half of this year, Nanjing achieved a substantial technology contract turnover of 39.8 billion yuan, marking an impressive uptick of 15.8%. The high-tech sector’s output value also made significant strides, accounting for a notable 55.1% of the city’s total industrial output value at or above the designated scale. During this period, 6 new companies debuted on the list of publicly traded entities. Impressively, there were 132.77 instances of invention patents per 10,000 individuals.
Notably, Nanjing experienced noteworthy growth across the spectrum in the first half of the year, including a 17.3% revenue increase in the new energy vehicle sector, 12.3% growth in the smart grid industry, and an 11% rise in the intelligent manufacturing sector. In a commendable feat, 107 small-giant enterprises (specialized, high-end and innovation-driven SMEs) emerged, contributing to a grand total of 213 such enterprises in the city’s landscape.
