Since December 30, 2023, Nanjing Lukou International Airport has commenced a trial operation of the new transit mode of “International Through Flights”, which has established seamless connections for domestic to international transfer and international to domestic transfer, further enhancing the airport’s transit capabilities. During the New Year holiday, a total of 159 passengers from cities such as Shenyang and Chengdu successfully experienced the “one-ticket-through, seamless baggage transfer” service at Nanjing Lukou International Airport through the “International Through Flights” business model. Additionally, 304 foreign passengers utilized the international transit interconnection channel at the above airport for their transfers.
“International Through Flights” is a transfer mode approved by the General Administration of Customs of the People’s Republic of China (General Administration of Customs for short) for selected domestic airlines and airports. China Eastern Airlines Jiangsu Limited has connected 54 flights from 14 domestic cities to flights bound for Sydney (Australia), Phuket (Thailand), and Seoul (South Korea), further leveraging the hub function of Nanjing Lukou International Airport. Under this business model, passengers can enjoy the convenience of completing check-in and baggage procedures at the originating airport in one go. At the transit airport, they can go through immigration clearance for both arrival and departure, undergo health quarantine and baggage inspection, and receive supervision. Baggage will be directly transferred to the final destination for easy retrieval, enabling smooth and convenient customs clearance.
According to reports, in order to secure the implementation of the “International Through Flights” service in Nanjing, Nanjing Municipal Bureau of Commerce, in collaboration with Lukou International Airport Customs, Eastern Airports Group, and China Eastern Airlines Jiangsu Limited, worked together and successfully completed the on-site renovation of dedicated channels for through flights at the terminal. On December 8, 2023, the General Administration of Customs officially approved Nanjing Lukou International Airport to carry out the “International Through Flights” service.
According to a spokesperson from Nanjing Municipal Bureau of Commerce, the opening of the “International Through Flights” service marks a new milestone in passenger transfer services at Nanjing Lukou International Airport. This development is expected to attract more airlines to open international routes in Nanjing, thereby supporting Jiangsu Province’s efforts to create a “globally attractive dual-direction open hub” and significantly enhancing Nanjing’s level of openness to the outside world. With the expansion of flight routes, residents will have a wider range of travel options and greater convenience in their journeys.
