On October 22, 2020, the Major Achievement of the Innovation Project of the Chinese Academy of Social Science, CASS, “China Urban Competitiveness Report No.18: Strong wind reveals the strength of grass: ‘China’s Cities and Property Market’” (hereinafter referred to as the Report) was jointly released by the NAES and Economic Daily.Looking at China from the cities, the Report moves towards the “14th Five-Year Plan” and the urbanizing China in the next 15 years. It built the comprehensive economic competitiveness and sustainable competitiveness by measuring the 291 cities in China with tools of new assumptions and new frameworks and principle of indicator minimization.
The top 10 cities in terms of comprehensive economic competitiveness in 2020 are Shenzhen,Hong Kong, Shanghai, Beijing, Guangzhou, Suzhou, Taipei, Nanjing, Wuhan, and Wuxi. The top 10 pattern is basically stable, with Wuhan in the central region,and the rest in the East. Compared with 2015, Shenzhen, Hong Kong and Shanghai remained the top 3, while Beijing rose by 1 place, and Guangzhou fell by 1.Suzhou, Taipei, Nanjing, Wuhan and Wuxi rose by 1, 1, 2, 3, and 1 respectively.
Nanjing ranks 6th in both rankings among the Mainland cities, as stable as those of 2019.
