The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) has released the 2024 Global Innovation Index (GII), and Nanjing’s tech cluster has broken into the global top 10, ranking 9th—a leap from last year!

Over the past five years, Nanjing’s rapid rise in global tech rankings has been remarkable, climbing 12 positions and maintaining a leading position among Chinese cities.

Nanjing also recently outpaced Washington, Paris, and Tokyo to claim the 6th position globally in the “Nature Index – Science Cities” rankings. With 907 PCT patent applications per million residents and 14,499 scientific papers published in the last five years, Nanjing’s R&D strength now ranks 26th worldwide, up two positions from 2023.
