By utilizing an analytical model, it was able to assess Nanjing’s competitive position in terms of ESG development. The report sheds light on several favorable ESG conditions prevalent in Nanjing, exemplifying the city’s commitment to sustainable growth. Notably, Nanjing’s industrial sector has achieved an impressive 7.8% economic growth over the past decade, with a mere 1% increase in energy consumption. This accomplishment underscores the city’s successful transition and its adoption of an upgraded development model.
Furthermore, Nanjing has showcased its proficiency in the integration of new energy projects, enabling timely grid connections and the remarkable achievement of 100% clean energy absorption in the region. The city’s dedication to preserving its water resources has resulted in consistent top-ranking positions in water environment monitoring quality within the province for four consecutive years. Additionally, Nanjing has achieved an outstanding 98% monitoring rate for regional meteorological disasters.
Globally, Nanjing has earned significant recognition for its scientific and technological advancements. Its remarkable progress is evident in its ascent from 94th place in the World Intellectual Property Organization’s global ranking of science and technology innovation cities in 2017 to a remarkable 18th place in 2021. As a prominent national center for medical and pharmaceutical research, Nanjing stands as the sole city among municipalities and provincial capitals to receive a Level 5B rating in the national smart medical assessment for multiple consecutive years.
