Kearney releases 2022 Global Cities Report: Nanjing retained 7th spot among Chinese mainland cities

Kearney, a leading global management consulting firm, unveiled this year’s Global Cities Index (GCI) and Global Cities Outlook (GCO) results in the 2022 Global Cities Report on 24 October. The Report assesses global 156 cities and Nanjing ranks 91st and 58th in the GCI and GCO respectively. Nanjing has retained its 7th spot among Chinese mainland cities in the GCI two years running and rises 5 positions in the GCO compared to last year.

The annual Global Cities Report is designed by Kearney and top academic institutes and business advisors from around the world. The GCI measures the competitiveness of globally engaged cities across five dimensions: business activity, human capital, information exchange, cultural experience, and political engagement. The GCO evaluates global cities’ potential across four dimensions: personal well-being, economics, innovation, and governance, with a view to offering a perspective on ways cities can create conditions for their future status as global hubs.

As the Report suggests, the Yangtze River Delta has been the city cluster with the most cities included in the GCI ranking for the third year in a row, demonstrating its overall strengths and balanced development in such dimensions as business activity, human capital, and cultural experience. And Nanjing, as a provincial capital in the Yangtze River Delta, maintains its long-held standing in higher education scores.
