First international literary exchange center settled in Nanjing

The Chinese Writers Association launched the International Literature Exchange Nanjing Center on Thursday. Chinese and foreign writers and scholars will rely on the center to strengthen international literary exchange and cooperation, further expand the international communication channels of Jiangsu literature, enhance cultural influence, share experience and exchange views.

The International Literature Exchange Center of the Chinese Writers Association is an international literature exchange brand built by the Chinese Writers Association with regional centers set up in Nanjing, Chengdu, Nanning and some other cities. The Nanjing Center is the first of its kind launched by the Chinese Writers Association with a view to promoting the global presence and influence of the Chinese literature through writers’ exchanges, seminars, academic forums and other activities.According to Zhang Hongbin, Director of the International Literature Exchange Center (Nanjing) of the Chinese Writers Association and Director of the External Liaison Department of the Chinese Writers Association, Jiangsu itself is a strong province of culture and literature and Nanjing is also China’s only capital of world literature. The establishment of the International Literature Exchange Center of the Chinese Writers Association in Nanjing will give full play to Nanjing’s profound cultural heritage and extensive international contacts which will help spread excellent Chinese culture tell Chinese stories and tell stories of our new era.The establishment of this exchange center will further promote the in-depth participation of Jiangsu writers and literary works in the exchange and dialogue of world literature, which is of great significance to promote the construction of a strong province of culture in Jiangsu and improve the international discourse power of Chinese literature.

Jonathan Stalling

Jonathan Stalling, famous poet in Iowa City and professor at the University of Oklahoma, said that he has started a journey of learning Chinese since he was a teenager. He hopes to publish more works of Jiangsu writers and scholars in the future, and to participate in more relevant activities in Nanjing in the future and actively promote Chinese literature to the world.

Francesca Krichelli

Francesca Krichelli, famous poet and PhD of literature in Reykjavik, Iceland, said that as one of the resident writers of this year’s Nanjing International Literature Resident Program, her inspiration for writing poetry came from the exchange and reading during the resident activities as well as everything she has experienced about the beautiful city of Nanjing. She was looking forward to participating in more cross-cultural exchanges and experience activities through the new platform.
