The German city of Dietfurt has long held the title of “Europe’s first Chinatown”. Its “Chinese Carnival”, a tradition spanning nearly a century, serves as a  symbol of cultural exchange between China and Germany. As ties between the two regions deepen, mutual exchanges flourish, exemplified by initiatives such as the “Bavarian Chinese Summer”. Nanjing’s consistent support for Dietfurt’s “Chinese Carnival” through donations of lanterns, Chinese costumes, and other cultural exchanges underscores the strength of this partnership.

In mid-April, a delegation of 46 members from Dietfurt, Germany, paid a visit to Nanjing. Dating back to 2015, the friendly and cooperative relationship between Dietfurt and Nanjing’s Yuhuatai District was formalized. Mayor Bernd Mayr expressed his hopes for the enduring friendship between Nanjing and Dietfurt, emphasizing the significance of this visit in bolstering ties and fostering cultural exchange between the sister cities.
