Payment convenience plays a crucial role in enhancing tourist experience for foreigners visiting Jiangsu. Since the beginning of 2024, the Jiangsu Provincial Branch of the People’s Bank of China has collaborated closely with relevant departments to streamline payment options across tourism venues. By the end of June, over 3,900 smart POS machines had been installed at tourism sites throughout Jiangsu and 256 key tourism sites in the province now offer comprehensive foreign currency exchange services.
In recent years, Nanjing has emerged as a primary destination for foreign tourists in Jiangsu. In 2024, the branch designated Laomendong, a well-known historical and cultural block, as a pioneer point for improving payment convenience in tourism settings.
Dchia, a French tourist with a keen interest in Chinese culture and cuisine, recently embarked on her journey in Nanjing. Last weekend, she effortlessly completed a purchase at a jewelry store at Laomendong with a smart POS machine that accepts foreign cards, guided by the cashier. Impressed by the swift transaction process and delighted to acquire handmade jewelry, she excitedly commented, “Very good!”
Currently, all 87 prominent merchants at Laomendong have equipped their facilities with foreign card acceptance capabilities. Since March this year, these merchants have processed a total of 198 foreign card transactions amounting to 524,200 yuan. Additionally, nearly 80 ATMs within a 3-kilometer radius of the block support foreign card withdrawals.
