On April 28th, Beijing hosted the 4th Global Promotion Event for Business Investment Attraction, during which Nanjing was named “China’s Most Attractive City for Investment in 2024” according to the 2024 Report on Investment Attractiveness Index of Chinese Cities by Tsinghua University. The index considers six key indicators, including location advantages, economic strength, and scientific innovation, showcasing Nanjing’s consistent appeal among China’s top investment destinations since 2020.
WHAT MAKES NANJING SO APPEALING?
Nanjing is a hotspot for business collaborations and partnerships, attracting investments both at domestic and global and fueling its overall growth. The city is buzzing with excitement as Costco, the world’s second-largest retailer, plans to introduce its advanced membership-based business model in Nanjing with an investment size of around 650 million. Another significant move is the recent collaboration between U.S.-based investment firm and Nanjing, committing $185 million to high-end projects like aluminum alloy wheels.
Additionally, Nanjing’s charm is evident in its ability to attract top-tier companies like Polestar Technology, which have chosen to establish their China headquarters in the city, expanding Nanjing’s global presence.
Nanjing is renowned for its wealth of scientific and educational resources. In recent years, it has also emerged as a nurturing ground for unicorn companies, with ten local companies making it to the “Global Unicorn Index 2024” by the Hurun Research Institute. This positions Nanjing as the 7th-ranked city in terms of unicorn presence among domestic cities.
Nanjing’s strategic location and robust transportation infrastructure play a crucial role in its appeal. The city boasts a well-connected network of water, land, and air routes, facilitating seamless connectivity with over ten countries across Asia and Europe. The Yangtze River serves as a gateway for 50,000-ton ocean liners directly to Nanjing’s port.
Nanjing leads the way in environmental, social, and governance (ESG) initiatives, being the first city in China to release an ESG report and embrace ESG investments. This commitment not only shapes Nanjing’s economic future but also enhances its international reputation, making it a magnet for global investors and partners.
