As the State Council has approved the launch of comprehensive pilot programs for opening up the service sector in Nanjing, the economic and trade delegation of Nanjing conducted a range of commercial exchange programs in Hong Kong from February 7 to 9. Themed with “Gathering in Hong Kong for a better future” and with “a keynote promotion conference” at the core, the activities include a series of official visits and matchmaking meetings as well as a promotion exhibition on Nanjing’s urban development. Opening up a new round of global economic and trade exchanges for Nanjing in this year, these events aim at promoting the cooperation between Nanjing and Hong Kong to a new and higher level, through boosting the two-way trade and investment and deepening the commercial exchanges in various fields.
In December 2022, the State Council approved the launch of comprehensive pilot programs for opening up the service sector in Nanjing, offering the city new missions and opportunities for high-level opening-up at the national level. The further opening-up of the service industry compounded with the establishment of pilot free trade zone will create new chapters for a deepened cooperation between Nanjing and Hong Kong.
At the Nanjing Promotion Conference on High Quality Development & Wider Opening up of Service Sector (Hong Kong & Macau) held on February 8, the Nanjing Municipal Bureau of Commerce promoted six key areas for further opening up based on the industrial development of Nanjing and the advantages of Hong Kong’s international cooperation, in order to fully upgrade the connection with Hong Kong and the world at large.
In recent years, the service sector of Nanjing has witnessed rapid development, becoming a major driving force and new engine for economic growth. The year 2022 has seen the value added of Nanjing’s service industry exceed 1 trillion yuan, with the sector contributing 68.1% to the city’s economic growth. Having been approved to carry out comprehensive pilot projects for opening the service sector with 104 favorable opening-up policies, Nanjing, equipped with more areas and more friendly environment for foreign investment, will become a “strong magnetic field” to gather high-end resources of the global service industry.
Nanjing will also launch the “Global Digital Service Provider Program” to create optimal environment for service providers around the world to locate which have the greatest potential in digitalization in such fields as business and finance.
