World Intellectual Property Day takes place every year in order to raise awareness about patents,copyrights, and trademarks and this year the topic is Women and IP: accelerating innovation and creativity in order to celebrate the “can do” attitude of women inventors, creators and entrepreneurs around the world and their ground-breaking work.

Nanjing Intellectual Property Office recently released a white paper on the status of IP development and protection of Nanjing in 2022. By the end of 2022, Nanjing boasted the number of invention patents up to 120.75 per 10000 people, and the number of high-value invention patents up to 48.73 per 10000 people, ranking at the forefront in China and the effective number of invention patents in the city reached 113,788.

In 2022, 28,291 invention patents were authorized in Nanjing. Among them, the number of enterprises’ authorized invention patent from the seven intellectual property-intensive industries in Nanjing is 14,100, up to 22.9% year-on -year. The equipment manufacturing industry counts for the most invention patent, with a total number of 6335, and the statistics for ICT manufacturing industry reached 2,708, witnessing 41.5% increase YOY.

This year, Nanjing will continue focusing on intellectual patent protection and will build 4-5 new IP workstations, expecting to serve no less than 800 enterprises for the whole year.
